All Life Center for Integrated Well Being Internship

Fall semester of 2017 I had the pleasure of receiving an internship at The All Life Center for Integrated Well Being (ALC). The All Life Center is a nonprofit cooperative organization that networks with health & wellness practitioners, small businesses, artists, and musicians throughout Central Ohio. The All Life Center community is made up of members who are passionate about enriching the mind, body, and spirit of the local community.

By receiving this opportunity, my responsibilities as an intern include the following:

  • Maintain equipment inventory.
  • Complete special projects assigned by Business Manager and Director of organization.
  • Design fliers and signs for daily events occurring at the All Life Center.
  • Answer phone calls.
  • Give informational tours to guests.

This semester, I am excited to experience my first internship in the nonprofit industry. My goals for this internship include the following:

  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • Confidently share the mission and vision of The All Life Center to the community.
  • Learn the process of event management.
  • Learn the logistics of event management.
  • Learn what funding is required to keep the organization running.
  • Learn how The All Life Center for Integrative Wellbeing’s Co-Operative Model effects managing the organization.
  • Experience the process of planning and hosting Organization and Community events and fundraisers.
  • Network with professionals and gain connections within the nonprofit industry.
  • Develop skills in promoting an organization through virtual and physically interaction. (Social Media versus In Person Meeting)
  • Learn how funds are distributed through the nonprofit organization. Experience working with others with a similar focus and goal. Use teamwork to complete tasks.
  • Gain experience working in the nonprofit industry.

Evidence of Activities and Responsibilities

While interning at The All Life Center for Integrated Well Being (ALC), I was in charge of greeting guests, managing and supervising events, and completing inventory organization projects around the center. Throughout my internship I completed the following projects and roles:

  • As the front desk receptionist, I acted as an All Life Center liaison during organization and community events. In this role, I was responsible for sharing the mission, goals, and membership details about ALC.
  • During regular work shifts I greeted guests, shared membership information to potential memebers, provided tours to walk-in and scheduled clients, answer phone calls, and supervised and managed the daily space reservation in the center. In addition, one of my responsibilities was to create front entrance announcement posters for upcoming events around the center, and provide resources and service recommendations to guests and ALC “regulars”.
  • One of my major internship projects was inventory organization. I was responsible for cleaning and organizing ALC’s library. For the library, I sorted the books by the business domains of the All Life Center (knowledge, biology, mechanics, mind and body, beliefs, and energy.) By organizing the library, it has helped ALC’s members easily find resources about the services the All Life Center provides
  • I was responsible for supervising ALC’s Facebook page. When a Facebook follower liked, commented, or direct messaged, ALC I was in charge of responding or following up with their concern.
  • I contacted and responded to invitations from local health and job fairs seeking The All Life Center’s participation. I was in charge of creating a spread sheet organizing the details of Health and Job fair, and what ALC could provide/contribute during the event. In addition, I created spreadsheets for ALC’s Open House recording the contacts and roles of volunteers for ALC’s Health Screening event.

Closing Statement

Towards the end of my internship at The All Life Center for Integrated Well Being (ALC), I was able to achieve the goals and objectives I set to accomplish at the beginning of the semester. I had the opportunity to develop professional connections with my coworkers, supervisors, organization clients, and The All Life Center memebers. During the semester, I achieved the following goals:

  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service to new clients and potential members of The All Life Center.
  • Provide informational tours of ALC to current and potential memebers.
  • Help organize and provide an “extra set of hands” during seasonal fundraisers.
  • Oversee the distribution and management of funds for the organization.
  • Observe how The All Life Center’s co-operative model effects managing the organization.
  • Experience the process of preparing for All Life Center and community events.
  • Network in the Nonprofit Industry.
  • Develop skills in promoting an organization through virtual and physically interaction.
  • Work with others with the similar goal of providing the best service to memebers through the evolution of the organization.
  • Gain work experience in the Nonprofit Field.
  • During this internship, I acquired the following skills:

I learned how to post and format social media posts as an administrator for the organization.

  • I learned new communication methods.
  • I learned how to make fiscally responsible decisions with little to no budget.
  • Teamwork!
  • Provide help and information about ALC to clients and members.
  • I learned how to be resourceful when organizing supplies, event and document details, and inventory records.

As a result of my internship at The All Life Center for Integrated Well Being, this experience has helped me realize my interest in planning and managing events. By recognizing this interest, I plan to look into event management or event coordinator opportunities in the nonprofit industry. Overall, I enjoyed working at The All Life Center this semester. This experience was a great way of “getting my feet wet”  in my future career industry.
